The Division of Human Anatomy and Structural Biology
Gail A. Shafer-Crane, PhD, MPA, OTR graduated with her bachelors degree in Occupational Therapy from Western Michigan University in 1971, and her MPA also from WMU in 1988. She completed her PhD in Anatomy at MSU in 2002. Research concentration includes study of repetitive stress injuries and the effects of vocational activity on the soft tissues of the upper limb. She has been an occupational therapist and department manger in hospitals in Grand Rapids, Muskegon and Lansing. She is certified as a hand therapist. In 1989, Dr. Shafer opened ARM Assessment-Rehabilitation-Management, Inc. an outpatient rehabilitation center with specialists in hand therapy and manual medicine. ARM, Inc. provides rehabilitation services to Eaton Rapids Medical Center, and is currently opening the new Health Works rehabilitation and wellness center at the hospital. Her current responsibilities at MSU include instruction in the ANTR 551 Medical Gross Anatomy Laboratory, and PSL 534 Cell Biology and Physiology.
