The College of Human Medicine at Michigan State University - Flint Campus provides clinical instructions each year for approximately 200 residents, 50 of our medical students, and 30 visiting medical students. Three area hospital (Genesys Regional Medical Center - St. Joseph Campus, Hurley Medical Center, and McLaren Regional Medical Center) join Michigan State University in creating a unique community/university academic setting. Within this environment, clerkships are structured in such a way to provide you with the opportunity to learn clinical medicine while under faculty supervision and with increasing responsibility for patient care.
We're a primary care oriented medical school using a community - integrated model to teach our residents and medical students. We are able to draw upon the resources of a major university but are small enough to get to know our residents and students on a first name basis. It really is a unique setting for medical education.
Genesys Regional Medical Center
This 423 bed, nonprofit, general service hospital is sponsored by the Sister of St. Joseph. Genesys Regional Medical Center - St. Joseph Campus demonstrates its dedication to medical education through its total commitment to its graduate medical education programs in :
- Diagnostic Radiology
- Family Practice
The Family Practice Residency Program is the largest in the state and one of the largest in the Country, and in keeping with the emphasis on primary care, the hospital provides a variety of health care services. The Family Health Center is one of these services which is dedicated to providing families with a full range of quality medical services. The hospital is also recognized as a major regional referral center for oncology and cardiology service; is equipped with a 24 hour emergency center; and offers services in urology, ophthalmology, inpatient and ambulatory surgery, pediatrics, and maternity care.
- The hospital's faculty consists of highly qualified staff of family practice physician as well as physicians in a variety of specialties to add to the hospitals resident and medical student teaching programs.

This 540 bed community hospital offers medical students the diverse patient population, challenging cases, and vast educational resources that one would expect to find in a university setting.
Hurley has made medical education an integral part of its operational policy and the medical center's patient care programs are strongly influenced by the presence of resident physician. Graduate Medical Education Programs are provided in:

- Combined Medicine/Pediatrics
- Obstetrics
- Pediatrics

- The Medical Center serves as a regional referral center for a three county region and offers specialty services such as: comprehensive trauma/emergency care; intensive care for newborns, children, and adults; pediatrics; adult and geriatric mental health units; dialysis and kidney transplant; comprehensive oncology care; high risk and normal obstetrical care; and expanding geriatric programs.
Hurley Medical Center's programs are geared to providing students and resident physicians with the skills, knowledge, and experience needed to compete successfully in the rapidly changing medical environment.
McLaren Regional Medical Center
McLaren Regional Medical Center is a full service 436 bed acute-care private hospital. The Medical Center offers graduate medical education residency programs in the following areas:
- Diagnostic Radiology
- General Surgery
- Internal Medicine
- Orthopedic Surgery
- Family Practice
- McLaren boasts of several Centers of Excellence to meet the needs of its patient population. These include: Heart and Vascular, Rehabilitation, Orthopedic/Bone and Joint, Behavioral Medicine, Kidney Dialysis, Cancer Care, and Women's Health Services.
The Medical Center's new 12-story patient tower is the most visible sign of McLaren's commitment to medical excellence. This facility will greatly enhance critical care capabilities with new intensive and coronary care units, five medical-surgical floors, and a new obstetrics unit featuring labor, delivery, recover, and post-partum rooms.
