College of Human Medicine - MERC
The Grand Rapids Medical Education and Research Center for Health Professions (MERC) Radiology Residency Program
Grand Rapids is a unique community dedicated to medical education and has a long tradition of outstanding graduate medical education programs. Grand Rapids features 23 graduate training programs which offer approximately 345 residency and fellowship positions in Transitional, Year Internal Medicine, ENT/HNS, Family Practice, Pediatrics, Obstetrics and Gynecology, General Surgery, Orthopedic Surgery, Radiology, Psychiatry, Plastic Surgery, Urological Surgery, Colon/Rectal Surgery, Emergency Medicine, and Surgical Critical Care.
Approximately half of these graduate programs are affiliated with Michigan State University, and several of the full-time academic faculty serve as residency program directors. Nearly all of the 900 volunteer faculty are board-certified and hold clinical faculty appointments with the MSU College of Human Medicine. Residents are also eligible for appointment as Resident Instructors.
As part of its focus on excellence in medical education and patient care, Grand Rapids has a strong commitment to research. MERC sponsors an annual Research Day for medical students and residents, and the Office of Research Consultation provides assistance with project design and statistical analysis.
A city-wide animal research facility augments available research resources, and the MERC Research Foundation provides funding for multi-institutional research. Faculty and resources at MSU in East Lansing are also available for research assistance.
