A few of the discoveries in the 1800's were:

1846-8: the planet Neptune was discovered by a German, Johann Galle.

Early in the century, photography was discovered.

Daguerre, in France, developed one of the earliest forms of photography known as Daguerreotypes.

Ascanio Sobrero in Italy discovered nitroglycerine in the 1840's.
