As the Radiologist in Charge of Educational Programs, Dr. Aben is involved with the educational programs of the Department of Radiology which range from the education of Medical Students at all level of training as well as the education of Radiology Residents. Dr. Aben teaches in the Anatomy Section of the department introducing concepts of imaging applications in the regions of Back and Thorax, as well as Abdomen and Pelvis.
As the course director and instructor of record, Dr. Aben has the privilege of delivering a course "An Introduction to Radiology" to a combined first year medical school class from the Colleges of Human and Osteopathic Medicine of over 300 students. This first introduction to the application of diagnostic imaging in day to day medical practice.
Other medical school courses include a variety of interactions at the level of the second year of medical school as well as several of the third year clerkships including Pediatrics and Internal Medicine.
The Tuesday didactic sessions and Visiting Professor Program at Michigan State Radiology is known both nationally and internationally. More than 80 residents from the southern tier of the state of Michigan interact with the leaders of radiology as well as the MSU faculty. Dr. Aben is intimately involved in the organization and successful delivery of this program.
With the expansion of the medical schools at Michigan State, Dr. Aben is actively involved in the work groups looking at mechanisms of delivering basic science medical school curriculum over a distributed campus system, working with Michigan State Global and MSU Virtual University.
