Fluoroscopy

About Fluoroscopy

Fluoroscopy is a special examination using x-ray techniques of the Gastrointestinal tract. Your physician’s office will schedule a fluoroscopic examination for you by calling the MSU Department of Radiology.

Before Your Exam

Your exam will require special dietary instructions, which will be explained to you when your appointment is scheduled. Please remember to carefully follow all special instructions you receive.

It is important to inform the technologist:

  • if you are pregnant or think you may be pregnant
  • if you are diabetic
  • if you have special food or medication needs during the time of your exam

During Your Exam

A technologist will explain how the exam will be performed and answer any questions you may have concerning your scheduled procedure. To assist in achieving the best possible examination results, the technologist will give you specific instruction regarding positioning your body during the exam. Also, breathing techniques, which assure that optimal imaging is achieved, will be discussed.

After Your Exam

Your exam will be viewed by a radiologist (a physician who specializes in diagnostic imaging). The results of your exam will be sent to your referring physician.
