Jill M. Slade, PhD

Jill M. Slade, Ph.D., Assistant Professor Radiology received her Ph.D. in 2003 from the University of Georgia studying Exercise Physiology. She continued her studies as a Post-Doctoral Fellow with Ronald A. Meyer, Ph.D. in the Department of Physiology before joining the Department of Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine at MSU as an Assistant Research Professor in 2005.

Her research has focused on musculoskeletal and vascular health and function in a variety of patient populations (individuals with diabetes, spinal cord injury, and older adults). Her broad research goals are to understand and improve the detection and treatment of diseases and complications in conditions such as diabetes, sarcopenia, osteoporosis, and hypercholesterolemia. Her current research is focused on understanding the structural and functional consequences of statin use on skeletal muscle in humans using non-invasive approaches (MRI, MRS, indirect calorimetry, strength testing). In addition, Jill is focused on studying hemodynamic responses of brief skeletal muscle contractions to understand blood flow regulation (MRI, ultrasound) and exploring their utility for evaluating vascular health. Jill has co-authored 19 peer reviewed articles. She holds a Certificate in Gerontology and is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist.
