SNAPP-Spartan Nutrition & Performance Program

The goal of SNAPP is to provide evidence-based sports nutrition education to optimize individual and team training, performance, and health for Michigan State University Student Athletes.

SNAPP is a team effort involving Registered Dietitians, Certified Athletic Trainers, Coaches & Players.

Being a part of Michigan State University Athletics requires discipline in the classroom, on the field/court/ice, in the weight room, and the foods you put on your plate. To excel as a student athlete it is essential that you properly fuel your mind and body. This will not happen with a magical powder or pill, but rather with a consistent balanced approach including the food quality and amounts, and the timing of your intake. Properly fueling your body will help you perform optimally in the classroom, weight room, and on the field/court/ice. What you will find on this website are guidelines to help you achieve peak performance and optimize your short-and long-term health. This includes strategies for adding lean muscle weight, losing excess fat, timing of nutrient intake, as well as meal planning and snack selection for performance and health.

SNAPP is for YOU if YOU want to:

  • Gain or maintain muscle - lean body mass
  • Reduce fat weight
  • Reduce fatigue & improve recovery time
  • Reduce frequency of illness (colds, flu, etc.)
  • Reduce risk of fractures
  • Optimize performance
  • Improve overall health (short & long-term)
    • i.e. risk for heart disease
